The Perfect 9 Night Scotland Itinerary
Scotland is officially on my mind — I'm headed there next month, and I cannot stop thinking about the perfect way to experience the Highlands. Whether you've been dreaming of dramatic landscapes, ancient castles, or golden light that seems to last forever, I've been putting together what I think is the ultimate itinerary for those ready to make the trip. I'm also sharing the hotels I'll be staying at along the way. Here's how I'd do it.
Edinburgh | May 24–27 (3 nights)
The perfect introduction to Scotland. Three nights to explore the medieval Old Town, iconic Castle, great restaurants, and Georgian streets before heading north.
Inverness | May 27–29 (2 nights)
A 2.5 hour drive north into the Highlands. Inverness sits at the edge of Loch Ness and makes a wonderful base for exploring the surrounding scenery — Culloden Battlefield, Cairngorms, and the loch itself are all within easy reach.
Isle of Skye | May 29–31 (2 nights)
A 2.5 hour drive west to the crown jewel of the trip. Jagged peaks, fairy pools, rugged sea cliffs, and skies that change by the hour. Late May brings light until nearly 10pm — Skye at its most magical.
Gleneagles | May 31 – June 2 (2 nights)
A scenic drive south to one of Scotland's most celebrated luxury hotels. 850 acres in Perthshire, world-class golf, a renowned spa, and exceptional dining. Edinburgh Airport is just 1.5 hours away for a seamless departure.
